Nordex has secured a new contract to supply and install 12 N133/4.8 turbines for the Drumnahough Wind Farm in Donegal, marking a meaningful step in Ireland’s ongoing push to accelerate renewable energy generation. The project, jointly owned by SSE and FuturEnergy Ireland, will add approximately 60 MW of onshore wind capacity, reinforcing the country’s efforts to scale clean power infrastructure.

Scheduled for delivery and installation in 2027, the turbines will enter Ireland through Killybegs Harbour, positioning the port as a key logistics hub for large-scale renewable deployments. Nordex will also provide long-term Premium Service support, ensuring consistent turbine performance and operational reliability throughout the project lifecycle.

The new order extends the longstanding collaboration between Nordex and SSE Renewables. Their partnership has already delivered the fully operational 101 MW Yellow River wind farm in Offaly and, more recently, new onshore wind commitments totalling 42 MW across Spain. Drumnahough builds on this momentum, highlighting the continued appetite for high-wind, high-yield technology such as Nordex’s N133 model, designed specifically for challenging wind conditions.

For Ireland, the project signals further progress toward national renewable energy targets as demand intensifies for scalable, secure and regionally aligned clean power solutions. For Nordex, it reinforces its positioning as a trusted supplier in the Irish onshore market, with Managing Director for the UK and Ireland Jason Welch underscoring the company’s commitment to long-term service, operational dependability and technology tailored for Ireland’s landscape.

With installation set to begin in 2027, Drumnahough represents not only added grid capacity but also strengthened industry cooperation and enhanced local supply chain activity, from port logistics to ongoing maintenance.
