Röhlig Logistics, the Bremen-based global logistics company, has named Alan O’Brien as Managing Director of Röhlig Ireland, effective 1 January 2026. O’Brien previously joined AirOcean Ireland in December 2018 as Senior Business Development Manager and played a key role in its integration into the Röhlig network following the January 2025 acquisition.
In his new role, O’Brien will focus on sustainable growth, enhancing customer portfolios, and expanding multimodal solutions across air and sea freight exports, with particular attention to westbound Far East business. He will also drive digital sales channels and customer service tools, applying artificial intelligence where it delivers measurable operational benefits.
O’Brien succeeds Garrett O’Brien, who founded AirOcean Ireland in 1997 and guided its evolution over decades. Garrett will remain in close collaboration with Alan until his retirement at the end of April 2026 to ensure continuity for customers, partners, and staff.
“Garrett O'Brien has shaped our Irish business over decades with entrepreneurial vision, personal commitment, and great loyalty, developing it into the strength that characterises it today. His understanding of the market, customers, and employees, as well as his trusting cooperation, were crucial to the successful merger of AirOcean Ireland and Röhlig Logistics,” says Ulrike Baum, Chief Human Resources Officer and Member of the Global Executive Board at Röhlig Logistics. “We wish him all the best for the next stage of his life and look back on his life's work with great appreciation.”
Röhlig Logistics, founded in 1852, operates across 30 countries with over 2,700 employees, providing tailored solutions in sea freight, air freight, and contract logistics. The appointment of O’Brien represents a continuation of the company’s strategic emphasis on scalable operations, customer-centric growth, and innovation in logistics services.
