One in three businesses expect to miss 2030 emissions targets

A sharp wake-up call for UK and Irish business leaders: 31% of companies admit they won’t meet their 2030 emissions targets. Budget pressure is the top barrier, cited by nearly half, followed by infrastructure gaps and tech limitations.

Energy resilience is also under threat, with 46% highlighting it as a key risk amid unstable prices and grid constraints.

Despite this, commitment remains high. Four in five firms plan to deploy on-site generation like solar and batteries, alongside energy efficiency upgrades and smarter software. A similar number intend to partner with third-party providers to accelerate decarbonisation.

The message is clearL bold intent is there, but delivery is being throttled by outdated infrastructure and economic headwinds. Leaders must act decisively to balance sustainability with resilience and profitability.
