Jacobs has been appointed by Iarnród Éireann to spearhead the upgrade of the Galway–Portarlington rail line, a key 140km stretch in Ireland’s Western region. This strategic project, part of the All Island Strategic Rail Review, aims to expand track capacity, boost train speeds, increase service frequency, and support decarbonisation.

The consultancy will deliver early-stage planning and design over an initial four-year framework, with potential for extension. Backed by Project Ireland 2040, the initiative supports national goals for sustainable mobility, economic connectivity and climate resilience.
