London Gatwick and the London Chamber of Commerce are urging the UK government to greenlight the use of Gatwick’s Northern Runway, a move that could unlock an extra 60,000 flights per year and double cargo volumes by 2038. With long-haul imports from Asia and the Middle East driving trade, expanding Gatwick’s capacity would provide a £2bn annual economic boost and create 35,000 new jobs.
The question for policymakers—can the UK afford to ignore this growth opportunity while global competitors scale up?
