France-based cargo General Sales and Service Agent ECS Group has been appointed by Vietnam Airlines as its exclusive cargo GSSA in South Korea, covering comprehensive cargo representation across sales development, capacity management, operational supervision, digital services and customer support.

According to Aviation Business News, the agreement will see ECS Group manage both general and specialised cargo products supporting Vietnam Airlines' growing network and capacity between Korea, Vietnam and beyond. South Korea ranks among the top three cargo markets across the Vietnam Airlines network and is described as a critical component of the carrier's international growth strategy.

Jean Ceccaldi, chief executive of ECS Group, said: "ECS Group presented a compelling business plan centred on revenue optimisation, supported by dedicated Vietnam Airlines teams in Incheon and Busan and backed by advanced digital capabilities. The partnership is expected to capitalise on increasing trade flows across Asia, as Vietnam continues to strengthen its position as a regional manufacturing and export hub generating strong demand for air cargo capacity. Key commodity flows driving that demand include electronics, semiconductors, automotive components, perishables, pharmaceuticals and e-commerce products, reflecting the breadth and complexity of the Korea-Vietnam trade corridor.

ECS Group's appointment covers operations at both Incheon and Busan, South Korea's two primary cargo gateways, providing Vietnam Airlines with dedicated on-the-ground representation across the country's key freight handling locations. The deployment of ECS Group's CargoTech-powered digital ecosystem across both stations is expected to improve booking efficiency, revenue visibility and customer service standards for the carrier's South Korean cargo clients.

Both companies confirmed that discussions are underway regarding potential expansion of the partnership into additional strategic cargo markets, signalling appetite for a longer-term and broader commercial relationship beyond the initial South Korea mandate.
