United Arab Emirates-based DP World and Al Dahra Holding have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore joint initiatives to strengthen food security and develop agri-logistics capabilities across the Gulf Cooperation Council and international markets, according to reporting in Parcel and Postal Technology International.

The agreement outlines a framework for collaboration focused on building integrated supply chain solutions for the movement, storage and distribution of food and agricultural commodities. It combines DP World's global logistics network with Al Dahra's expertise in agricultural production and sourcing.

The UAE relies heavily on food imports, with around 85-90 per cent of its food sourced from abroad, highlighting the need for resilient and efficient supply chains. Under the memorandum of understanding, the companies will explore the development of dedicated logistics and port infrastructure to support the import, processing and distribution of food commodities across the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Plans include cold chain and warehousing solutions for perishable goods such as fresh produce, grains and processed foods. The partners will assess opportunities for joint investment in logistics facilities, free zones and agri-food processing hubs, particularly in Abu Dhabi and the wider region.

Group Chief Executive of DP World Yuvraj Narayan stated: "This collaboration reflects DP World's commitment to enabling resilient and sustainable global supply chains. By combining our logistics capabilities with Al Dahra's agribusiness expertise, we aim to deliver innovative solutions that support food security and economic growth across the region and beyond."

The companies will consider expanding global sourcing corridors across Africa, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Americas, and deploying technology-driven solutions such as digital platforms, traceability systems and smart logistics tools to improve supply chain efficiency and transparency.
