Denmark-based ferry operator DFDS will add a third vessel to its Rosslare-Dunkirk route from September 2026, increasing service to seven weekly round-trips to provide additional capacity for freight operators and more travel options for passengers during the holiday season, according to a company announcement.
The third vessel will join Athena and Victoria Seaways, which already operate on the route launched in 2021. Growing demand for direct transport links between Ireland and continental Europe continues to drive the need for additional capacity.
Route Director Owen Hides stated: "We are committed to supporting Ireland's freight economy and enhancing connectivity between Ireland and continental Europe. Bringing a third vessel into service on this route will strengthen our offering, providing more capacity, improved schedule choice, and the reliability our customers expect from DFDS."
Director of Commercial Business Units for Iarnród Éireann, Port Authority for Rosslare Europort, Glenn Carr stated: "We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with DFDS on the Rosslare to Dunkirk route. The expansion to seven services each way weekly underlines the growth and success of the service since its launch in 2021, and will be a boost to trade and tourism regionally and nationally. At a time of challenges to global supply chains, it reaffirms Rosslare Europort's status as Ireland's Gateway to Europe."
The Rosslare-Dunkirk service has built a strong reputation among freight operators for dependable performance and efficient operations since its 2021 launch. Passenger volumes have risen steadily, with more Irish travellers opting for direct routes to France enabling smooth journeys to destinations across mainland Europe.
The route enables passengers to bring vehicles including cars, caravans and campervans, making it suitable for families and touring travellers planning extended holidays across France, Belgium, Germany and beyond.
