BWG Foods has introduced the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, Ireland’s first long-haul fully electric Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV), into its distribution fleet.

The launch took place at BWG’s National Distribution Centre (NDC) in Kilcarbery, with Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Seán Canney, attending alongside representatives from Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) and Masterlink.

This is the second eActros vehicle added to BWG’s growing zero-emissions fleet, supporting the company’s sustainability objectives and operational reach across more than 1,000 stores nationwide. The eActros 600 can travel over 500km on a single charge, using advanced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology. The vehicle is designed for long-distance freight while eliminating tailpipe emissions, advancing Ireland’s logistics and transport sector toward low-carbon operations.

BWG Foods’ electric transport investment forms part of a broader sustainability programme across the Group, aligning with national climate action goals. The company currently holds the SEAI Energy Award for Transport, recognising excellence in sustainable and renewable energy initiatives.

BWG’s Logistics Division has been acknowledged for innovation and performance in low-emissions operations through its Transport Decarbonisation Project, which enhances distribution efficiency across SPAR, EUROSPAR, MACE, Londis, and XL stores.

The fleet also includes Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and biogas vehicles, achieving a 90% CO2 reduction, alongside Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) diesel alternatives delivering a 70% reduction.

The addition of the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 underscores BWG Foods’ ongoing focus on integrating zero-emission technology into everyday freight operations, reinforcing the company’s role in Ireland’s transition to cleaner logistics.
