Bus Éireann has expanded its partnership with Galway-based transport performance platform CitySwift, deepening the use of AI-powered analytics to simulate traffic patterns, predict the impact of network changes, and drive further service improvements for passengers across Ireland.
According to Tech Buzz Ireland, the original five-year partnership launched in 2024 and has already delivered measurable results, with Bus Éireann improving overall network performance by 8.1% between January 2025 and January 2026 and increasing punctuality by 24.8% on Route 404 in Galway.
Allen Parker, Chief Customer Officer at Bus Éireann, said: "We are excited to be extending our work with CitySwift, enabling us to take a data-driven approach to simulating the impact of network changes, speeding up internal processes, and optimising network performance, ensuring we're continuously delivering a better experience for our passengers."
The expanded scope will see CitySwift's platform applied to services in Galway, Cork, Limerick, and commuter routes into Dublin. CitySwift currently optimises more than 3.3 billion passenger trips annually across its global client base.
Alongside the Bus Éireann expansion, CitySwift has partnered with Galway Simon Community to deliver a Transport for Ireland Leap Card initiative providing free public transport access to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Brian O'Rourke, co-founder and CEO at CitySwift, said: "Expanding our partnership with Bus Éireann is an important milestone for CitySwift, particularly as it allows us to optimise bus services right on the doorstep of our headquarters in Galway and see first-hand the difference these improvements make for passengers."
The announcement follows recent partnership renewals with Transport for Greater Manchester and Blackpool Transport.
