Belfast is set to launch its first autonomous shuttle service this May, marking a significant step in the city’s smart mobility transformation. The nine-seater Harlander will operate a mile-long route through the Harbour Estate, linking Titanic Quarter’s railway halt to the Catalyst innovation hub.
Backed by £5.5 million in Innovate UK funding, the project brings together Belfast Harbour and partners including REE Automotive, BT, Angoka and Horiba Mira. This real-world deployment aims to prove the commercial viability of autonomous public transport, with testing already complete at a specialist facility in Warwickshire.
Designed to boost connectivity across Belfast’s Innovation District, the electric shuttle supports the city’s strategic transport masterplan and net zero ambitions — positioning the region at the forefront of future mobility.
