Australian postal operator Australia Post has opened a new parcel-focused post office in Yarrabilba, Queensland, as part of efforts to expand and modernise its network in high-growth areas, according to reporting in Parcel and Postal Technology International.
The facility is the fourth next-generation post office introduced by Australia Post in the state and is designed to provide faster and more flexible parcel services for local customers. The Yarrabilba parcels site is dedicated to sending, collecting and returning parcels.
The format combines staffed services with self-service options, including 24/7 access to parcel lockers and vending machines offering packaging and mailing supplies. The new outlet replaces parcel collection services previously available at the Yarrabilba community postal agency, with customers now able to collect and return online purchases around the clock.
General Manager of Retail Operations North Sarah Coe stated: "The number one reason customers visit a post office is to collect a parcel, so we're making it quicker and easier to collect and send parcels at a time that suits them."
Coe added that the investment responds to population growth in the area, stating: "Yarrabilba is a rapidly growing suburb and as the local community continues to expand – we're committed to upgrading our services to better support residents."
Australia Post stated the next-generation format is designed to be flexible and scalable, with some locations featuring a smaller front-of-house footprint supported by more efficient back-end operations to handle higher parcel volumes.
The parcel-focused format reflects changing customer behaviour as e-commerce growth drives demand for convenient collection and returns facilities accessible outside traditional retail hours. Australia Post continues adapting its retail network to support rising parcel volumes whilst managing cost efficiency across physical infrastructure.
