Eighteen chambers of commerce across Arizona have declared support for BNSF Railway’s proposed 3.2 billion US dollar Phoenix Logistics Park, a large-scale development designed to enhance freight movement and supply chain efficiency in the region. The endorsement marks a significant show of unity from the state’s business community amid ongoing debate over the project’s potential impact.

According to Railway Supply, the backing was formalised in a joint letter presented to Maricopa County Supervisor Debbie Lesko following a meeting on 21 October hosted by the Northwest Valley Chamber of Commerce. The letter, signed by 15 local chambers and endorsed by three more, highlighted the park’s role in supporting Arizona’s expanding economy and attracting long-term investment.

The Phoenix Logistics Park, if approved, would include the construction of Arizona’s first intermodal terminal served directly by BNSF’s rail network, along with warehousing and supporting infrastructure. The facility aims to streamline freight operations, reduce truck traffic, and lower logistics costs, providing a competitive edge for businesses operating within and beyond the state.

Lena Kent, BNSF’s general director of public relations, said the project is “the first of its kind in Arizona,” underscoring its potential to strengthen regional transport capacity while aligning with environmental and efficiency goals.

However, not all local authorities are convinced. Earlier this month, the Surprise City Council voted unanimously against the project, citing potential pressure on city infrastructure and public safety services. In response, BNSF has pledged major investments in nearby highway upgrades and ongoing collaboration with state and local transportation departments to address traffic concerns.

The project could redefine Arizona’s logistics landscape and anchor its position in the national freight corridor.
