US-based two-person delivery specialist AIT Home Delivery has opened a new 8,400m² depot in Enfield, north London, as part of a £25m, 10-year investment programme to expand its final-mile delivery capacity across the UK capital.

According to Parcel and Postal Technology International, the facility is located 29km north of the City of London, close to the A10 and M25, with the site's position intended to reduce stem mileage, improve route optimisation and increase delivery reliability across one of the UK's most congested logistics markets.

Gary McKelvey, vice president of global home delivery at AIT, said: "The opening of our Enfield depot is a key milestone in aligning our network with market demand. As e-commerce continues to grow, so too do expectations around speed, flexibility and reliability. By investing in a strategically located facility, we are not only increasing our capacity in London but also reducing mileage and improving delivery efficiency."

The Enfield depot will support a broad range of final-mile services, including nominated-day and next-day delivery, room-of-choice delivery, assembly and installation, packaging removal and seven-day delivery. The breadth of the offering reflects growing retailer and consumer demand for flexible, high-specification home delivery options across dense urban markets.

Ryan Carter, executive vice president, Americas at AIT Worldwide Logistics, said: "London and the South East are among the most important logistics markets globally. Our investment in Enfield demonstrates a clear commitment to strengthening our UK network with infrastructure that enhances service performance, reduces operational inefficiencies and supports continued growth."

The investment is set against continued expansion in UK e-commerce, which is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 7.01% through to 2029. Sales across the sector are reported to have increased by nearly 30% between 2024 and 2025, underscoring the scale of demand that operators such as AIT are positioning to capture. The UK remains the world's third-largest e-commerce market, behind only China and the United States.
